Blades of Rudo
At the request of the planeswalker paladin Sir Arthur Desven, and for the reward of 400 gold peices, our party of four leave the keep of Labast dawn on the day of the Moon, for the long treck west to the stones of the Dry Fort. The mission is to secure the location and status of the Halfling caravan “Rattledeep”, to help them back to Labast, if possible, or to return with any requests made by Huris Shameford, Caravan Master. Baron Metla’s Dry Fort estate is halfway to the edge of the Deep Forest, passing through mostly pinelands on the way. Midafternoon the trap is sprung. A number of ragged human crossbowmen and an elf waylay our group and demand payment in food and coin for passage through these pinewoods. Onuriz offers to share meat and mead with his elven kin, but not with the human despoilers of the wood. The elf tells them that his name is Logan, and these poorfellows were once men of Rudo who were taxed out of hearth and home and fled to the woods to avoid the king’s justicars. Now the woods sustain them, and we tax those who pass this way. Vanwafeya offers homes and potential pardons for those who seek out lord Desven and repent their crimes. Logan signals the men to advance and take the food and weapons, both sorely needed. Beleen summons arcane mists to hide them and Fubar summons his mount under the cover. Battle ensues where Logan runs, sorely wounded and Fubar was in great danger because of a valiant charge. The four Blades quicken their pace and Fubar rides ahead. They are welcomed to the caravan by the overly pious WagonMaster Huris Shameford and told that four men, even seasoned warriors cannot egress their group of wagons. They are barracaded into the fort and halfling defend the walls. It would be one thing if it were just men, but Bones walk at night and the shirefolk dare not venture out. Water supplies are low because the Dry Fort is so called because of it’s barren wells.
Onuriz keeps late watch (as a martial elf, he only needs meditation to be fully rested). The bones came walking and reeking of decay and oil. Onuriz sounds the alarm and his arrows do no good. A caster blazes farther in the distance and trys to throw fire but is brought down and slain by arrows of Onuriz and mystic bolts from Fubar. A blade is found on the body of the fallen mage/druid with markings of script Onuriz does not know, he pockets the blade. Melee combat destroys the undead and the halflings repair their damaged gate/wagon. After, Onuriz consults the halfling adept/apothecary and secures enough herbs and extracts to produce 5 poisonous arrows. The others rest and focus to recouperate their mystical strengths. Vanwafeya keeps watch until the dawn of the next day.
